CAST AWAY

From a passenger ship, everyone can see a bearded man on a small island, who is shouting and desperately waving his hands.

"Who is that man and why is he so upset?" a passenger asks the captain.

"I've no idea, but every year when we pass by, he goes nuts."

Ah, poor guy. Well, you know what they say, some people never have any luck. Noooo, I'm not talking about myself, but rather our unfortunate character in the story.

So, do you know what we mean when we say "go nuts" ? Well, it means to become so hysterically upset that your behavior is like that of a wild person. You might scream or shout, wave your arms about and act like someone just stole the winning lottery ticket out of your hand.

To "go nuts" might be something you do in a variety of situations. For example, when you pass your big test or are hired by the company you really want to work for, you might "go nuts". Or, when someone on the train or bus keeps leaning on you like you are a cushion or a wall, you might "go nuts" with anger or frustration. Or when you see Kimutaku or Norika Fujiwara on the street in Ginza window shopping on a Saturday night, your reaction might be to "go nuts" with excitement.

I'm sure that you can imagine what I mean in your mind anyway. So, when was the last time you "went nuts"?
