課題

Little Nancy's Pet

Little Nancy was in the garden filling in a hole when her neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the little girl was up to, he politely asked, "What are you up to there, Nancy?"
"My goldfish died," replied Nancy tearfully, without looking up, "and I've just buried him."

The neighbor was concerned, "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"

Nancy patted down the last heap of earth and then replied, "That's because he's inside your stupid cat."

隣のおじさんがフェンス越しにナンシーを見かけたとき、彼女は庭で穴を埋めていました。
何をしているのか気になって、「ナンシーちゃん、そこで何をしてるの。」と優しく尋ねました。
ナンシーは、「金魚が死んじゃったから埋めてるの。」とうつむいて涙ながらに答えました。

おじさんは不思議に思いました。「金魚を埋める穴にしてはやけに大きくないかい。」

ナンシーは地面を平らにし終えて答えました。「だって、おじさんちのバカネコのおなかの中にいるんだもん。」
