課題

He stuck his hand into the water, soaping up a glass. We tended to have our most intense

interactions around the kitchen sink.

“What did you think of Aaron's girlfriend?”

My father shook his head, wearily. “What was she doing here, again?”

“She came by with a gift for him.”

“Oh, really,” he said, moving a couple of glasses onto the dish rack.

“What was it?”

“An Italian picture frame. With a picture of her in it.”

“And you didn't tell her she should have kept it for herself?”

　「アーロンの彼女、どう思った？」
　父さんはつかれた顔をして、頭を横にふった。「あの子、なにしにきたんだって？」
　「アーロンにプレゼントをもってきたの」
　「へえ、そうなのか」父さんは、コップをいくつか水切りかごに入れた。
　「どんなプレゼントだい？」
　「イタリア製のフォトフレーム。しかも彼女の写真つきだよ」
　「自分の部屋にかざっとけって言ってやらなかったのか？」
