An Illinois man left snowy Chicago for a vacation in warm Florida. His wife happened to be on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel room, he decided to send his wife a quick email.
Unfortunately, he mistyped her address, and his note was mistakenly sent to an elderly preacher’s wife whose husband had died the day before. When the grieving widow checked her email, she let out a piercing scream and fainted to the floor. At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen: Dearest, Just checked in. Everything is ready for your arrival tomorrow. P.S. Sure is hot down here.



訳文

イリノイ州に住むある男が、暖かいフロリダでバカンスを過ごすため、雪の降るシカゴを出発した。彼の妻はその日はたまたま出張で、次の日に現地で夫と落ち合う計画だった。男は予約したホテルの部屋に着くと、妻にさっと簡単なメールを送ることにした。
ところが、妻のメールアドレスを間違えて打ってしまい、メールは誤ってひとりの年老いた女の元に送信された。女は牧師の妻で、前日に夫を亡くした未亡人だった。悲しみに暮れる女がメールをチェックすると、女は耳をつんざくような叫び声を上げ、床に卒倒してしまった。その音を聞いて女の部屋に駆けつけた家族が見たものは、スクリーンに映ったこのメール文だった。「最愛の妻へ。今、着いたよ。明日、君を向かえる準備は万端だから。P.S. こっちは本当に灼熱です」
