Girl: Tomorrow is your birthday, isn’t it?
Robot: Yes, if you think a robot has a birthday. I’ve been programmed to serve your every need. My initial start date is of little importance to me.
Girl: But you are a member of our family. Even if you are a robot. We think of you as one of us. We want to celebrate your life like we would any of our other family members.
Robot: That is such a kind human sentiment to share with me. You know I am programmed to work without emotion. If you choose to give me a birthday party, that is up to you.

女の子： 明日は、誕生日だね。
ロボット： はい、ロボットに誕生日があるとお考えならば。私にプログラミングされているのは、あなたがたの要求にすべて応えること。私にとって、いつ初めて起動したかは、たいして重要ではないのです。
女の子： でも家族の一員だよ。ロボットでもね。みんな、君のことを家族と同じと思ってる。君が生まれたのを、ほかの家族のときみたいに祝いたいんだよ。
ロボット： 私が理解するには、あまりにお優しい人間的感情です。ご存知のとおり、私に感情はプログラムされていないのです。私の誕生日パーティを開くかどうかの判断は、お任せします。
