Little Nancy's Pet
Little Nancy was in the garden filling in a hole when her neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the little girl was up to, he politely asked, "What are you up to there, Nancy?"
"My goldfish died," replied Nancy tearfully, without looking up, "and I've just buried him."
The neighbor was concerned, "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"
Nancy patted down the last heap of earth and then replied, "That's because he's inside your stupid cat."

ナンシーちゃんのペット
お隣さんが垣根越しに見ると、ナンシーちゃんがお庭で穴を埋めていた。小さな女の子が何をしようとしているのか気になり、優しく聞いてみた。
「ナンシーちゃん、そこで何をしているの？」
「あたしの金魚が死んじゃったの。」ナンシーちゃんは顔を上げず、泣きながら答えた。
「だから埋めてあげたところなの。」
お隣さんは心配して言った。「その穴は、金魚には大きすぎるんじゃない？」
ナンシーは最後の土をかけて平らにし、それからこう答えた。
「だって、あたしの金魚はあなたのバカ猫のおなかの中にいるんだもの。」
