課題

Little Nancy's Pet

Little Nancy was in the garden filling in a hole when her neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the little girl was up to, he politely asked, "What are you up to there, Nancy?"
"My goldfish died," replied Nancy tearfully, without looking up, "and I've just buried him."

The neighbor was concerned, "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"

Nancy patted down the last heap of earth and then replied, "That's because he's inside your stupid cat."

隣に住む男がフェンス越しに覗くと、小さなナンシーが庭で穴を埋めているところだった。少女が何をやっているのか気になった隣人は優しくたずねた。
「ナンシーちゃん、何をやっているんだい？」
「あたしの金魚が死んじゃったの」ナンシーは顔を上げずに涙声で答えた。「たった今、埋めたところなの」

隣人は不思議に思った。「そんなに大きな穴が金魚に必要なのかい？」

ナンシーは最後に土をパンパンとならすと、こう答えた。「だってあなたのバカ猫のお腹の中にいるんだもん」
