Little Nancy's Pet
Little Nancy was in the garden filling in a hole when her neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the little girl was up to, he politely asked, "What are you up to there, Nancy?"
"My goldfish died," replied Nancy tearfully, without looking up, "and I've just buried him."
The neighbor was concerned, "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"
Nancy patted down the last heap of earth and then replied, "That's because he's inside your stupid cat."

少女ナンシーのペット
ナンシーが庭に何か埋めているのを、塀越しに見ていたお隣さん。
何をしているのか気になり、少女に優しく声をかけました。
「そこで何をしてるのかな、ナンシー」
「ペットの金魚が死んじゃったの」
ナンシーは泣きながら、顔も上げずに答えます。
「だからお墓を作ってあげたの」
お隣さんは首をかしげました。
「金魚にしてはずいぶん大きなお墓だね」
するとナンシーは最後に盛った土を手で軽く叩いてから、こう答えました。
「だって私の金魚はあなたのバカネコのお腹の中にいるんだもん」
