課題

Nothing makes people laugh more than a funny face. In Japan, fukuwarai is a traditional face making game which is played during the New Year’s holiday time. This game is not about using your actual face. Rather, people try to put together the pieces of a face onto a large flat head while blindfolded. The face is that of the Japanese mythical goddess Okame, the bringer of luck and kindness. After each player is done, everyone laughs at how funny the face looks. Fukuwarai literally means "lucky laugh" and laughing is exactly what happens when people play this game.

　変顔って最高に面白いですよね。日本では、昔からお正月になると「福笑い」という変顔づくりの遊びをします。と言っても、本物の顔でするわけではありませんよ。遊び方は、目隠しをして、輪郭だけが描かれている大きな絵の上に、目や耳など、顔のパーツの絵を置いていきます。その顔は、日本神話で幸運と思いやりの心をもたらす女神である「おかめ」をイメージしたものとされています。パーツの配置が終わると、できあがった顔のあまりのおかしさで、その場は笑いに包まれます。「福笑い」の文字通りの意味は「幸福な笑い」ということですが、確かにこの遊びをするとみんなが笑顔になります。
