福笑い翻訳コンテスト

課題

Nothing makes people laugh more than a funny face. In Japan, fukuwarai is a traditional face making game which is played during the New Year’s holiday time. This game is not about using your actual face. Rather, people try to put together the pieces of a face onto a large flat head while blindfolded. The face is that of the Japanese mythical goddess Okame, the bringer of luck and kindness. After each player is done, everyone laughs at how funny the face looks. Fukuwarai literally means "lucky laugh" and laughing is exactly what happens when people play this game.

面白い顔ほど、人々の笑いを誘うものはありません。日本のお正月には、「福笑い」という、顔を使った伝統的な遊びが行われます。顔といっても本物の人間の顔を使うのではありません。顔の輪郭を描いた大きな絵の上に、目隠しをした人が、鼻や口などの顔のパーツを配置していくのです。福笑いに使われるのは、日本神話の開運・招福の女神、おかめの顔です。顔のパーツを置き終えたら、こっけいな表情を見て、皆で笑います。福笑いとは文字通り「幸運の笑い」という意味で、この遊びの最中には本当に笑い声があがります。
