Castle Greystone was finally in sight.
After three days of rain, mud, and bad roads, it looked almost beautiful.
“Tell me we're staying there tonight,” said Leo.
“We're not,” Serena replied.
“Tomorrow, then?”
“Nope.”
Leo groaned.
“Why does every quest take us farther away from a proper bed?”
“Because adventurers never choose the easy road.”
“Then adventurers are idiots.”
Serena laughed.
“And yet you're still here.”
Leo opened his mouth to reply.
Then both of them fell silent.
The gates of Castle Greystone were slowly opening.

三日間の雨やぬかるみや荒れ果てた道を切り抜けたあとだと、もはや城が美しく見える。
「今夜の宿は決まったな」とレオが言うと、「いいえ」とセレーナが答えた。
「明日までお預けってか？」
「そうじゃなくて」
レオが唸る。
「なぜいつもクエストは俺たちを素敵なベッドから遠ざけるんだろうな？」
「冒険者は楽な道を絶対に選ばないからね」
「そりゃあ冒険者はバカ揃いなことで」
セレーナが声をたてて笑う。
「それでもきみはここにいるじゃない」
レオが言い返そうと口を開いたとき。
二人は黙り込んだ。
灰巖城の門がゆっくりと開いていく。
