Castle Greystone was finally in sight.
After three days of rain, mud, and bad roads, it looked almost beautiful.
“Tell me we're staying there tonight,” said Leo.
“We're not,” Serena replied.
“Tomorrow, then?”
“Nope.”
Leo groaned.
“Why does every quest take us farther away from a proper bed?”
“Because adventurers never choose the easy road.”
“Then adventurers are idiots.”
Serena laughed.
“And yet you're still here.”
Leo opened his mouth to reply.
Then both of them fell silent.
The gates of Castle Greystone were slowly opening.

三日間におよぶ雨と泥と悪路を経た今、その姿は美しくさえ思えた。
「今夜はあそこに泊まれるんだよな？」とレオが尋ねた。
「泊まらないけど？」セレナが答える。
「…なら明日の夜ってことか？」
「泊まらないってば」
レオがうめいた。
「どうしてクエストをこなせばこなすほどマトモな寝床から遠ざかるんだ！」
「冒険者は険しい道を選ぶものだからよ」
「つまり冒険者ってのはバカなんだな」
セレナが笑った。
「そのバカの一員なんでしょ？」
レオが何か言い返そうとしたところで、
二人とも、言葉を失った。
グレイストーン城の門が、ゆっくりと開きだしたのだ。
