Nothing makes people laugh more than a funny face. In Japan, fukuwarai is a traditional face making game which is played during the New Year’s holiday time. This game is not about using your actual face. Rather, people try to put together the pieces of a face onto a large flat head while blindfolded. The face is that of the Japanese mythical goddess Okame, the bringer of luck and kindness. After each player is done, everyone laughs at how funny the face looks. Fukuwarai literally means "lucky laugh" and laughing is exactly what happens when people play this game.

おかしな表情ほど面白いものはありません。福笑いとは、日本で正月休みに行われる、伝統的な顔を作って楽しむ遊びです。といっても、実際の顔を使うわけではありません。その代わりに、大きな平らな顔を使いその上に、目隠しをしていくつかの顔のパーツを適当な位置に配置していきます。ゲームには、幸運や優しさを運んできてくれる日本神話の女神、おかめの顔を使います。それぞれの競技者が配置を終えると、皆でいかにおもしろい顔になっているかを笑い合います。福笑いとは文字通り「幸運な笑い」であり、このゲームをすると、まさに笑いが起き皆が幸せな気持ちになります。
